Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a partner?
No. You don't need a partner because Salsa is a social dance. We rotate partners during lessons to give you the chance to get used to dancing with different partners and to meet each other. Couples are welcome to come along too, but you will be asked to change partners during the class for the same reasons.
What should I wear?
Wear something comfortable and preferably layers because it can get quite warm when you are dancing. Shoes should not be slip-ons but you don't need to buy dance shoes when you are a beginner. A shoe with a smooth, slightly slippy sole will help when learning turns.
What class should I join?
If you have little or no experience in salsa, we recommend you join our absolute beginner lessons. If you are unsure which class would be best for you, talk to one of our teachers and they will advise you.
Can I bring my own drink with me?
Yes please bring a drink with you.
How long will it take me to learn?
Everyone learns at a different pace so it's difficult to say how long it will take you to move between the different levels of classes. However, on average, dancers usually learn the basics in 4-6 weeks if they attend each week. It may take another 3 months before dancers are ready to confidently lead or follow a short salsa routine by themselves.
Do I have to book?
You don't need to book a class but if you are an absolute beginner you need to start at the beginning of a course so check the "Classes" page for the next start date.
